The Art of Miriam Ramsey
Welcome, My name is Miriam.
Where do I begin. Do people still read the “ABOUT” page? Well obviously someone must because here we are.
Like I said, I’m not sure where to begin. I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Maryland, USA. Influenced by Animated cartoons and illustrated books that were read to me as a child, I began to use my imagination and create my own drawings.
After some art education in elementary school, I quickly learned that art and creativity came very natural to me. I would draw all the time, sketching pictures of animals and fantasy creatures. Over time my knowledge and techniques were improving. However, as time passed and I went through some personal struggles, there were times I would get frustrated and stop creating for a while.
For almost two years I gave up on creating art for myself. This was often because I was told it was a waste of time and that there was no future in it. It took a very experienced art teacher I met in my Technical High School to remind me how important art was for me. Art has been not only a hobby, but it is my therapy and most importantly my direct unique communication to other people.
About The Art
“Here There Be Dino.. Dragons?”
Aside from my previously mentioned inspirations, one of my all time inspirations was paleontology, specifically the study of dinosaurs. I was and still remain captivated by their unique anatomy as well as the mysteries of their actual appearance and demise.
Dinosaurs have such a big impact on my creativity that you can still find dinosaur like features in some, if not most of my dragons.
“Finding Myself Again“
While I love designing and creating a broad variety of fantasy creatures, art is as I said before “my therapy.”
So it goes without saying that as soon as I’m facing an internal struggle or I start to find myself again, I search within myself to find a way to express that through my art.
From sketches and paintings to sculptures, I put my blood, sweat and tears into these pieces.
